Client: Andritz Technologies Pvt Ltd
Sector: Upstream Production Operations
Status: Successfully commissioned
Application: High mercaptans
Capacity: 350 kg/hr
Inlet Gas: Sour gas
Stack Height: 9m
Burner Fuels: Methanol, LDO, Natural Gas
Background
Andritz Technologies Pvt Ltd engaged CRA to design and supply a thermal oxidizer system with a triple fuel burner for the safe combustion of sour gas and non-condensable gases (NCG) generated at TNPL – Unit II, in Mondipatti, Trichy.
CRA engineered a fully enclosed thermal oxidizer system featuring advanced combustion design tailored for high-sulfur and NCG-laden gas streams. The system was developed with a focus on emission control, safety, and long-term operational reliability.
Scope of Supply
The entire solution — including a custom burner supporting Methanol, LDO, and Natural Gas, pilot system, forced draft fan, enclosure, piping, instrumentation, and integrated control systems — was designed and manufactured in-house by CRA.
CRA also executed:
Detailed structural design
FEA validation
Radiation and acoustic analysis
Electrical engineering and interlock safety logic
The unit was delivered as a fully skid-mounted package, factory tested, and successfully commissioned at the site.
Outcome
CRA’s solution enabled Andritz and TNPL to achieve high-efficiency thermal oxidation of a chemically complex, high-sulfur gas stream , while maintaining fuel flexibility between LDO and Methanol, depending on site availability.
The custom-engineered burner and fully integrated oxidizer system allowed reliable, safe operation across fluctuating plant conditions, ensuring stable combustion, high destruction and removal efficiency (DRE), and compliance with emissions and safety standards.
By delivering a skid-mounted, factory-tested system with fully integrated controls, CRA provided a robust, ready-to-operate solution that has been successfully deployed at the site.
