Client: BrahMos Aerospace

Sector: Defence

CRA Role: Design, Qualification, Manufacturing & Ongoing Supply

Platforms: Air, Land, and Naval Launch Variants

Overview

CRA is a qualified production partner in the BrahMos supply chain, having designed, developed, and delivered close to 200 units of a critical missile handling system known as the Corset.

This system is used to safely secure and interface the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile across deployment platforms operated by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

CRA’s scope covers full engineering, qualification, and in-house manufacturing, including the design and build of a custom load testing system to simulate operational and emergency conditions.

The Challenge

BrahMos required a high-integrity mechanical system capable of:

  • Surviving extreme shock, vibration, and dynamic loading

  • Precisely fitting the missile body across multiple platform geometries

  • Meeting strict qualification and inspection protocols with zero margin for deviation

  • Scaling into serial production with complete QAP compliance and traceability

CRA was expected to engineer, produce, and qualify the system under full compliance with ORDAQA, India’s independent defence QA authority

Our Solution

End-to-End System Development

CRA re-engineered the entire system from physical interfaces and performance criteria, built 5 test units, and qualified them under simulated field loads.

High-Precision Machining

Each Corset unit contains 1500+ components, all machined, fabricated, welded, and assembled at CRA’s NCR-based manufacturing facilities. Every part — from missile-contact points to latch mechanisms — meets tight tolerance and material traceability standards.

Custom Load Testing Infrastructure

CRA developed and built a hydraulically actuated test rig in-house to simulate six critical test conditions, including:

  • Emergency landing load simulation

  • Integration stress profiles

Multi-axis precision load-testing facility tests every corset delivered to BrahMos

Full Qualification

All units were tested and accepted under third-party QA, with full raw material traceability, process documentation, and part-wise validation under the project QAP.

Results

  • ~200 units delivered and counting

  • Ongoing serial supply integrated into BrahMos’ delivery schedule

  • Accepted and deployed across all three branches of the armed forces

  • Platform-integrated handling for a Tier-1 strategic system

  • Proven capability to deliver full-cycle subsystems — from engineering to production
