Andritz Technologies Pvt Ltd engaged CRA to design and supply a thermal oxidizer system with a triple fuel burner for the safe combustion of sour gas and non-condensable gases (NCG) generated at TNPL – Unit II. CRA engineered a fully enclosed thermal oxidizer system featuring advanced combustion design tailored for high-Sulphur and NCG-laden gas streams, focusing on emission control, safety, and long-term operational reliability.

The Challenge

Designing a Reliable, Multi-Fuel System for High-Sulfur Waste Gas Manage-ment

Andritz Technologies Pvt Ltd required a reliable,safe, and emission-compliant system to manage complex waste gas streamsgenerated at the TNPL paper mill. The core challenge was to design and supply athermal oxidizer capable of:

  • Safely combusting chemically complex, high-sulphur (sour gas) and NCG-laden gas streams.
  • Maintaining critical fuel flexibility by accommodating three different fuels (Methanol, LDO, and Natural Gas) based on fluctuating site availability.
  • Ensuring high Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE) and compliance with strict emissions and safety standards across varying plant conditions.

Our Solution

Custom-Built, Skid-Mounted Thermal Oxidizer Featuring Advanced Three-Fuel Combustion

CRA engineered and supplied a fully enclosed,skid-mounted Thermal Oxidizer System featuring an advanced combustiondesign tailored for multi-fuel and high-sulfur gas streams.

Scope of Supply and Engineering:

The entire solution was designed, manufactured, andfactory-tested in-house by CRA, and delivered as a fully skid-mounted package.The solution included:

  • Custom Three-Fuel Burner: Designed to seamlessly support operation on Methanol, LDO, and Natural Gas.
  • Integrated Combustion System: Enclosure, pilot system, forced draft fan, and comprehensive piping.
  • Advanced Engineering: Detailed structural design, FEA validation (Finite Element Analysis), radiation and acoustic analysis, electrical engineering, and interlock safety logic.

CRA provided a robust, ready-to-operate solution bydelivering a skid-mounted unit with fully integrated controls, instrumentation,and full-service commissioning.
