Type

CRA engineered and commissioned a chemical biogas scrubber system for Shiv Construction at the 50 MLD Behrampur wastewater treatment project in India. The system was designed to remove hydrogen Sulphide and other acidic, corrosive impurities from raw biogas generated during sludge digestion. By ensuring consistent contaminant removal under low-pressure conditions, the solution protects downstream equipment, improves gas quality, and supports safe, reliable biogas utilization in municipal wastewater infrastructure.

The Challenge

Ensuring Reliable H₂S Removal from Low-Pressure Biogas Streams

Shiv Construction required a biogas treatmentsystem capable of handling raw digester gas containing hydrogen sulfide andacidic components that pose corrosion and safety risks. The key challengesincluded:

Effective removal of H₂S under very low inletpressure conditions
• Fluctuating biogas composition typical of wastewater sludge digestion
• Requirement for consistent gas quality to protect downstream equipment
• Minimizing operator intervention through automation
• Safe operation within a potentially hazardous plant environment

The system needed to deliver stable scrubbingper formance while maintaining simplicity, reliability, and operational continuity.

Our Solution
